Soccer Scholarship Won by Texas High School Soccer Star – Mary Rose McLean

Mary Rose McLean is not only the captain of the Senior Girls Soccer Team at Melville Secondary School, she is also a straight “A” student and the recipient of the Texas Sport Scholarship.

San Antonio, TX – Mary Rose McLean, high school honor student and captain of the Senior Girls Soccer Team at Melville Secondary School, was recently announced as the recipient of this year’s Texas Sport Scholarship.

The Texas Sport Scholarship is a scholarship given to any grade 12 student at an American high school who has showed outstanding performance in one or more sports, as well as excellent academic achievement. Recipients of this award are based on sport performance, academic performance and community involvement.
The scholarship offers a full two years of paid tuition as well as $500 per semester for textbooks and supplies. This combined with other scholarships McLean has won will pay for three years of her tuition.
“I am so thankful for this scholarship,” said Mary Rose McLean in a recent interview. “Without financial aid and scholarships I would not have been able to afford to go to college.”

Mary Rose McLean has a 4.0 GPA and has won numerous awards for her soccer abilities. In addition, she is an assistant soccer coach at the Melville Elementary School, and spends her Sundays teaching kid’s Sunday school at Church.
In a recent interview, assistant coach Sally Jones was quoted saying the following: “McLean is a natural leader; she is always encouraging her teammates to work with each other, and promotes a positive environment.”

With McLean as the team’s captain, Melville Secondary School has had a successful season with twelve wins and only three losses.

Melville Secondary School Wins State Championships in Girls’ Soccer

Melville Secondary School, located in San Antonio Texas, recently won the State Championships with the team captain Mary Rose McLean scoring the winning goal.

San Antonio, TX – Melville Secondary School recently won the State Championships in Senior Girls soccer this year in a tough battle against North Dallas Secondary School. Although MSS were considered to be the underdogs, they made an outstanding effort.

The match was scoreless during most of the first half, until North Dallas forward Casey Olette scored in the last 45 seconds of the half. After the break, Melville Secondary School came back to tie it up early in the second half.
“I was a little nervous in the first half,” said MSS Head soccer Ashley McGuire. “Our girls seemed to be nervous and not as confident; however our wonderful captain Mary Rose McLean quickly stepped in and lifted up the team.”
The match was scoreless for the rest of the second half, forcing the game to go into a shootout. Three players from North Dallas scored, and three players from Melville had scored as well.
“I was the last one up,” said Mary Rose McLean. “I was nervous but I did what I had to do for myself, and the team.”
Mary Rose McLean scored the winning goal for Melville Secondary School, giving her team the State Championship. This is the first state championship her school has ever won, in any female sport.

Melville High School Soccer All Star Mary Rose McLean Receives Player of the Year Award

Mary Rose McLean is a grade 12 student at Melville Secondary School in San Antonio Texas, is a straight “A” student and the captain of the Senior Girls Soccer team.

San Antonio, TX – Melville Secondary School student Mary Rose McLean has been selected by the San Antonio Soccer Award Committee as the 2011 recipient of the San Antonio Girls Soccer Player of the Year award. This honor places Mary Rose McLean in an elite group of the top 5 high school soccer players from across the city who were nominated for the award.
“Mary Rose McLean has been one of the most athletic players the area has seen in the past four years,” said MSS Head soccer Ashley McGuire. “Although we are sad to see her leave, it has been a wonderful experience watching her grow and achieve numerous titles and awards.”
The Player of the Year award recognizes Mary Rose McLean not only for her outstanding performance as a soccer player, but also for hers academic achievements at Melville Secondary School. As the representative for the city of San Antonio, Mary Rose McLean is also finalist for multiple academic scholarships as well as sports scholarships.
“The San Antonio Player of the Year award has never actually been won by a Melville Secondary School student before, and it is an honor for the whole school.” Said the school’s Vice Principle Jennifer Roberts.

High School Soccer Star Mary Rose McLean Takes Her Team to the Finals

Mary Rose McLean is the captain of the Senior Girls Soccer Team at Melville Secondary School, and is preparing her team to face the North Dallas Bulldogs in the State Championships.

San Antonio, TX – Mary Rose McLean, captain and all-star of the Senior Girls Soccer Team at Melville Secondary School, scored the winning goal in the semi-finals this past Saturday allowing her team to advance to the State Championships.

Melville Secondary School has never been a powerhouse in girls’ soccer, however with the increased media exposure as of this year as well as the leadership of McLean, the school is quickly converting to a self-proclaimed “soccer school.”
“I love soccer, it’s my life,” said Mary Rose McLean in an interview after Saturday’s game. “I can’t believe we are on our way to the State Championships, I have dreamed of this all my life.”

Mary Rose McLean also went on to state that she has made it her personal and professional goal to make it to the women’s world cup, and represent the United States of America in the global tournament one day. “While the women’s world cup may be my ultimate dream and goal, I have to take it one step at a time. My next goal is to help my team with the championship next week.”

While the team does consist of many talented individuals, it is the team cohesion that is emphasized my McLean that has brought the team this far.

Melville Secondary School has had an excellent season this year, leading their region with 12 wins and only 3 losses so far this season.
